Big Footwear Trends to Look Out For in Summer 2023

by Shannon Scott June 01, 2023

It's time to step out and celebrate. You can feel it in the air – a renewed sense of freedom and optimism. Restaurants and bars are in full swing, and people are ready to come together and enjoy all life offers. Hello, world!

Comfort is still king

As everything gets back to normal, one thing that will still be a must when it comes to shoe fashion is comfort. Thankfully, that doesn't mean we're stuck with ugly or plain shoes. Instead, even some of the most radical fashion choices can be more comfortable when they're custom-made by artisans to perfectly fit your feet.

"Statement sandals" – and some of the most expensive sandals in the world...

Sandals are still going strong. As proof, here are some of the most expensive sandals in the world of fashion:

Passion Diamond Shoes – $17million

An unbelievable amount of diamonds and real gold are used to make these exquisite sandals. These are a result of a collaboration between Jada Dubai and Passion Jewellers. If you're thinking about getting a pair, be sure to wear them only when you're walking on a mink rug!

Debbie Wingham Heels – $ 15 million

Stuart Weitzman is at it again. When it comes to creating the most expensive sandals, he dominates the category. His inspiration for these sandals is Debbie Wingham, the world-famous multi-media artist and designer.

Rita Hayworth Heels – $ 3 million

If you don't know who Rita Hayworth is and how she was the most sought-after Hollywood star, you need to learn more about her here. Stuart Weitzman created these shoes as a tribute to the ravishing Queen of the Big Screen.

How to Make Your Own Shoe Style Statement With Sandals

Of course, if you're ready to spend hundreds of thousands on sandals now, you know where to find them. But will they say something about you and your very own sense of design?

To draw attention to your "Statement Sandals," why not collaborate with the designers and artisans at COMUNITYmade? They'll help you choose exactly the materials and style you want – especially regarding the added touches that express your style. And as always, you can count on a perfect fit.

The Most Famous Shoe Designers and the Not-Yet-World Famous

If shoe style is your passion, most of the names on this first list won't surprise you. However, it really depends on your personal taste. Some people prefer to use the most recognized designers and shoe trends as a starting point for custom-made shoes. Others would rather be influenced by the fresher footwear trends created by up-and-coming designers worldwide.

The Most Famous

  • Christian Louboutin
  • Manolo Blahnik
  • Jimmy Choo
  • Giuseppe Zanotti
  • Stuart Weitzman
  • Roger Vivier
  • Salvatore Ferragamo
  • Alexander McQueen
  • Nicholas Kirkwood
  • Brian Atwood

The "not yet" world-famous

  • Amina Muaddi - This designer is known for their avant-garde, playful aesthetic, especially regarding the signature flared heel.
  • Nicole Saldana – Based in New York, she describes her shoes as inspired by art and music.
  • Yuul Yie – A Korean designer who is becoming known for unexpected details and sculptural heels.
  • By Far – A brand from Bulgaria that has become renowned for its block-heeled mules and angular ankle boots.
  • Neous – This is a London-based brand that walks the fine line between timeless and contemporary.
  • Rejina Pyo – Straps, bold colors, and cutouts are the signature of this Korean-born designer.
  • Jennifer Chamandi – Another up-and-coming artist from London. Distinctive heels that are plated with actual gold are a favorite.

Underground fashion week vs. the most famous fashion weeks

Here again, you'll find a variety of sources to help inspire the kind of shoes the artisans at COMUNITYmade can create for you.

Alternative Fashion Week In London

Even though alternative fashion has been celebrated in London since 1993, it is still powered by the latest and even controversial expressions of fashion. This event is hosted in one of the most expensive cities in the world, and it might not be for the faint of heart, but you can still learn all about it online.

Paris Fashion Week -- The World's Most Famous

If you missed the one in February, don't despair, there's another in September. Even though there's always plenty of debate between Milan and Paris, many recognize Paris as the most important fashion show to attend. The French fashion industry oversees the entire event, and you can bet shoes are a main draw.

Why knee-high boots are boss

Ballet flats, lug soles, and kitten heels often appear in the latest shoe fashions, but for spring-summer 2023, knee-high boots are boss. It takes just one word to explain why: drama. Walk into a room with the right knee-high boots, and it makes a bold statement, head-to-toe.

It's time for 2023 collections, and Barbie Pink is back

The world premiere for Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, is set for July 21st, 2023. Barbie Pink is a color that has been popular from time to time, and this year it's going to be iconic. You'll miss out if you don't have at least a pair of flip-flops in Barbie Pink to wear with your cargo pants. Why not make Barbie Pink the superstar of your own pair of custom-made shoes with the help of the artisans at COMUNITYmade?

Let's not leave out men's shoes

Pitti Uomo, the world's leading fashion platform for men's shoes, clothing, and accessories, is held twice a year in Florence, Italy. Florence has long been at the forefront of fashion and when it comes to shoes. Men's shoe fashion might not have been as extravagant as women's, but design, style, quality, and fit are just as important.

You deserve to step out a little

You may or may not believe a perfectly fitted, custom-made pair of shoes might take more time or money than you're willing to spend. Not true. It all depends on your tastes.

Almost everyone that visits COMUNITYmade is surprised – the people that aren't surprised are our repeat customers, and chances are you'll become one of them. So contact us today at COMUNITYmade.

From Trash to Treasure: Upcycling Materials in Shoe Design

Clothing brands are producing twice the amount of clothes today than they did in 2000. About 15% of raw materials used during production are wasted because of cutouts, and 60% of garments are discarded just a few years after production. On top of that, the energy-intensive production methods, high water and chemical use, and lengthy supply chains intensify the ecological impact of the fashion industry.

Find Your Perfect Size

We want to help make sure that your new shoes have the best fit possible.

We have created a separate fit for men and women to provide the ultimate foot hugging comfort.  Our sockliner and upper materials will naturally mold to your foot and stretch out after a short period of time, so do allow for this when trying our shoes on initially.

In general, our shoes are running closer to an everyday shoe fit vs. an athletic shoe fit and can be worn with or without socks - but the socks have to be eye catching for best results.

Any variances from this chart will be noted on each individual product page.
