COMUNITY is a catalyst for change; inspiring action, participation and empowerment of others in the community. We make premium shoes, handcrafted locally that give back locally, to fuel our mission. For every pair of shoes we sell, we give $10 back to a local community effort to support the Arts, Education and Ending Homelessness as directed by YOU at the point of purchase.
We believe in supporting the local economy and bringing back the lost art of quality manufacturing to the city of Los Angeles.
Our shoes are made right here in Los Angeles by highly skilled craftspeople who have perfected the art of shoemaking. By producing locally, we have the opportunity to help support commerce in our community, allowing our workers to build build a sense of ownership and pride.
We are committed to making the most sustainable and responsible decisions in developing and manufacturing our products and our goal is to utilize the local materials and construction methods available to us. We are also driven by our consciences, many of our materials may come from overseas, not because it’s less expensive but because the best shoemaking materials are very hard to come by in the USA.
We believe it is important to be transparent during this journey and want you to understand some of the challenges we are up against by manufacturing in Los Angeles. We believe in fair business practices and fair wages for everyone involved. Our pricing model is different. We've placed community before cost. Unlike most shoes, the majority of the cost to produce our shoes is in the labor to handcraft them. As a result, COMUNITY shoes are not cheap. That's OK... for now. We are confident this the right way to approach business for the long term.
To illustrate this point, here is an apples to apples comparison of a "virtual shoe" using the same styling, materials and construction. You may pay a little bit more for our shoes up front, but you will be able to wear them and love them for a long time!
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world."
- Margaret Meade
Our team is lean and mean but we come equipped with decades of footwear industry and marketing experience. More important than that – we like hanging out with each other. Various paths have brought us together as one, with a shared vision and a belief that we can make a difference in the world, no matter if it is on a small or large scale. Together we are the “UMAMI” of the business world.
Our shared philosophy on life allowed us to flip the business model around and focus on the community rather than just profits, using our shoes as the vehicle to help connect and inspire others to take action. We look forward to meeting the challenges of building a business together, and will always make time to laugh while dodging, ducking and diving our way through the obstacles that undoubtedly lie ahead.

We want to help make sure that your new shoes have the best fit possible.
We have created a separate fit for men and women to provide the ultimate foot hugging comfort. Our sockliner and upper materials will naturally mold to your foot and stretch out after a short period of time, so do allow for this when trying our shoes on initially.
In general, our shoes are running closer to an everyday shoe fit vs. an athletic shoe fit and can be worn with or without socks - but the socks have to be eye catching for best results.
Any variances from this chart will be noted on each individual product page.
